Painting the car

Here we go again - this time with some paint.
So I grabbed my Aztek 430 airbrush and paint from Tamiya (Black, Light Grey and Dark Yellow) and Vallejo Model Air (their "Panzergrey") and my small compressor (a "Güde" which I bought from Ebay some time ago).

At first I did a priming overspray with Black from Tamiya to give the rest of the paint a good base on all three kinds of surface - the kit's plastic, the resin and PE parts - also for pre-shading.
Then I took the Panzergrey from Vallejo and made a first layer. Next I added some of the Light Grey to highlight the plain surfaces that are mostly uncovered in the sun (body sides, top of the enigne hood and on the rear top etc.).
A third layer, highlighting with the previous colours plus a little bit of Dark Yellow was done to increase the effect of depth on the sides and on top of the Horch 108.

A little bit of progress

Today I built the frame between the front and rear seats and the frontal rear bench itself from soldering wire parts toghether and glueing the Royal Model resin parts for the bench toghether on top of two wire sockets.

Next there will be the flap of the small storage behind the rear-most seat and the co-driver's seat which I hope to get done tomorrow until late afternoon before seeing my girl.

I know - the bench and the frame are a bit sloping to one side... but I'm not that perfectly skilled yet.

My first conversion attemt: Horch 1a into Type 40

Well, this is my first real model build after about two years of absence. I simply didn't find the time and there was a certain lack of passion for modelling. But now it is back!

I decided to make an attempt for a conversion build. The decision for the model to convert was easy: I just had read about the 2./SS-PzAufkl.Abt. 1 of the LAH. They had a Halbzug with heavy machine guns and used Horch 108 Type 40 cars to transport them and the crews of the sMG.
So I bought me the Tamiya kit of this car:

Next I ordered the Royal Model super-detail set for the Horch 1a and took some plastic card sheets from my old spare box.

After starting to build the chassis and putting in the first PE-parts of the Royal Model set it looked like this:
As you can see I also cut off the kit's body side fender housings for the external mounted spare wheels. This was made since the Type 40 had internal mounted spare wheels.
After two days with a few hours of modelling each it looked like this:

Next there will be the rest of details added and then it will be time to splash some colour (panzer grey) on it in the coming week.
